A quick interview with Mark:

How many years have you been working in your craft?

I have been working with metal most of my adult life, I started working with glass 12 years ago.

How did you get started and what prompted you to begin?

Signed up for classes in Indianapolis trying to make friends, and I’ve been hooked every since

What about your craft inspires you?

There are so many things you can do with glass, it’s like a never ending medium. I never get enough time in the hot shop and I am always planning and looking forward to the next time I get to blow glass.

What makes your work authentic and original?

I hand cut or carve a lot of my own molds out of different metals and fruit woods native to Indiana. I blow glass in rotten tree stumps, no two are alike, and each one is unique.

How does being a Hoosier impact your work?

I try and recall my childhood memories of being in the woods with my father and recreate the images that were present at that time of Indiana’s trees and wildlife.

What else about yourself or your work would you like to share?

Alot of my work is made with recycled materials; I see art and beauty in everything. There are so many things that inspire me in Indiana, I have a never ending supply with all that it has to offer.
